More than one month has passed since the huge cyclone Pam devastated Vanuatu, and recovery efforts are continuing in areas hard-hit by the disaster.

The DPJ has held hearings from non-governmental organizations (NGOs) directly involved in providing assistance to the disaster-stricken areas regarding conditions in Vanuatu and the assistance being provided. The party decided to cooperate in recovery efforts in Vanuatu through assisting such NGOs. In the morning of April 15, DPJ International Department Director-General Yukihisa Fujita visited both the Japan Platform and the Association for Aid and Relief, Japan (AAR Japan) and gave both organizations donations collected by the party to help victims of the cyclone.

The DPJ will continue to provide assistance to the ongoing recovery effort in Vanuatu by receiving information and requests for assistance from NGOs, and liaising and cooperating with them where appropriate.
