On June 30, DPJ International Department Director-General, member of the House of Councillors Yukihisa Fujita, handed over donations collected for the earthquake that occurred at the end of April this year to two non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and the Embassy of Nepal in Tokyo. The donations had collected from members of the public, party members and Diet members through efforts collated by the DPJ National Rallying and Campaigning Committee over a two-month period.

During the morning, Fujita visited the respective offices of JPF and JANIC. Representatives of the organizations thanked the DPJ warmly for their assistance and Fujita passed over the donations. On each occasion, he received a report of the organization’s activities before discussing various issues including the debate over the security legislation.

In the afternoon, Fujita met with the Ambassador of Nepal, Dr. Madan Kumar Bhattarai, and handed over the DPJ donation. The Ambassador expressed his appreciation for the assistance received from Japan and the DPJ in particular, and explained the state of the recovery operation and the ongoing issues faced in the disaster zone.
The DPJ established a Nepal Earthquake Response Room (tentative translation) following the earthquake, and engaged in hearings from the various government ministries concerned and from NGOs.
