The DPJ's Eight Pledges for Creating a Free and Fair Society
1 Giving everyone peace of mind
To unify the pension system, so as to support diverse lifestyles.
2 Vitality from the grass roots
To switch tied grants into financial resources (\18 trillion) for the regions, so as to draw out the inventiveness of the regions.
Creating dynamic agriculture
To establish a direct-payment system, so motivated people can invigorate agriculture and farming communities.
4 Entrusting to the market what it does best
Abolish business regulations in principle, and stimulate competition under fair-trading rules.
5 Helping people to take on challenges
To use "Young Work Service Centres" to help young people to gain qualifications and find employment.
6 Responsibility to the future
To shrink the role of the government, and restore authority over education to the regions.
7 A stance based on will
To establish diplomacy characterised by independence and equality, and based on international cooperation.
8 Straighten up politics
To increase the transparency of politics, and practice it in a sensible way.
